What to do if your Partner has a Sleep Disorder
Does your partner have a sleep disorder? If so, there is a good chance that he or she is not the only one missing out on the recommended amount of rest. There is a good chance that your sleep is being affected as well.
While you may believe you are out of luck, there are steps you can take to help your partner while bettering your situation. Here are some ideas to consider:
-
Suggest that your partner seeks help for his or her sleep disorder. Regardless of the type of disorder, you should encourage your loved one to seek medical assistance. This is important for two reasons:
- It will help pinpoint the problem and subsequently lead to a solution
- It will ensure that the sleep disorder does not lead to additional health concerns
-
Do your part. Once your partner’s sleep disorder has been diagnosed, there are steps you can take to help him or her. You can help the person follow along with their scheduled treatment, while also watching for symptoms while they sleep. Both of these steps can be very helpful, not to mention supportive.
Explain your side of things without being overbearing. Remember this: your partner does not want to suffer from a sleep disorder. They do not want to be faced with this ailment. You must be as supportive as possible, even if you are in a bad mood due to a lack of sleep.
If you are going to sleep in another room for the meantime, explain why you are doing so without becoming confrontational.
These are just a few of the things you can do if your partner has a sleep disorder. This is a serious situation that calls for medical treatment as well as personal support.
